I never thought that I would be able to build a web page, let alone a microsite. However, I did just that.
The first page I made I made was my index.html page and made a template to base my other pages off of, so I didn’t have to write four pages of code. This worked great, and I really only ran into a problem when I forgot to add my navigation bar and had to add the code to each page. I was really amazed when I validated the HTML that I didn’t have a ton of errors, and they were minor errors.
Next, I moved on to create the CSS page that all of my HTML pages would reference. When we first learned about CSS, I thought I would really enjoy it. I don’t enjoy it as much as I thought because one line of code can break it all, and this happened many times with my navigation element. For my CSS page used the template I made for the prototype document. I looked fine. It was blue and gray with some pictures and a navigation element. I was pretty proud of myself but knew there were a lot of things I wanted to fix.
In class on February 16th, we had peer review. I knew going in that my website was not the the best, but I had done a pretty good building it and formatting it the way I wanted. During peer review, I got a lot of good feedback. One issue that was brought up was my color scheme made the page look boring. I agreed so I played with some pops of color until I found a nice green that would pop for my navigation bar. Another recommendation I had was my header. At first, I liked what I had done and decided not to change it, but at the last minute, I decided to create a banner image in fireworks. They were right, and I’m so glad I changed my site based on their feedback, it really made the site a lot better.
I now feel a little more comfortable and confident to make web pages and a microsite. I think my final product turned out really well and I’m pretty proud of how far I’ve come in web page creation.
